Core Members of the Solitaries of DeKoven

Core Members of the Solitaries of DeKoven are hermits living alongside each other at the Vigeat Radix Hermitage in North Central Texas. The hermitage is comprised of a large WWII army barracks located on 28 acres of land. It is a beautiful rugged country of woodlands and open pastures that lends itself to silence and solitude.

The vocation of a Core Member is one of total commitment to God in the silence and solitude of the hermitage. The discernment process towards becoming a Core Member begins with with discussion on one's sense of call to the vowed life and solitude with one's spiritual director. Written conversation (preferably via e-mail) with one of the Core Members and several visits to the Vigeat Radix Hermitage are necessary to foster the mutual listening that takes place during the discernment process. The path to becoming a life vowed Core Member takes between 4 to 6 years.
